GymSpot Owner
Begging my local gym owner to let me starting using his gym at the tender age of 14, is where it all began. Having been a sporty youngster from athletics/gymnastics/swimming & running, I was wanting to experience training in the gym. Initially to help further my track & field competitions, but leading into powerlifting briefly, followed by bodybuilding for 12 years.
An Interest in Fitness
My interest in the fitness industry blossomed the more I was involved, working full time on the gym floor when I left school. My first competition was in 1999, a small regional organised by the locals in Whangarei, laughing as I think back at how I used to cheat on my diet & how I looked on stage – of course at the time I thought I looked fab!! From this experience I wanted more & of course to improve.
I left NZ to do a bit of traveling, taking me to Australia initially, continuing to compete & work in the industry. Returning to NZ for a short stint 2002, taking to the stage once again & working in Auckland at an upmarket health & fitness facility – training as a Body Trainer through Les Mills & learning the RPM modules.
Qualified Massage Therapist
In 2004 I took to the opportunity of working on a cruise ship around the Caribbean, of course working the gym & having had my massage qualification, I worked in the salon as a Massage Therapist also. So that wasn’t my thing, there wasn’t enough challenge in it for me. So off to explore a little around London before heading back to Australia to work with a gym equipment supplier & part time in the gym, loved my job – but missing home I was homeward bound by the end of 2005.
On returning to NZ I made connections with Tony Ligaliga & Lynne Wright, I fast became part of the wonderful “family” of bodybuilders at their gym known back then as ‘The Environment’. So it was here I remained until 2007 when I headed back to the beautiful North.
Personal Training
Personal Training/Competing & working at a good friends gym was where I remained until it was time for more…which bought me to Warkworth to settle with my partner & there was an opportunity for a gym to be set up which is when GymSpot was born.
